Love Languages and Prioritizing Platonic Intimacy
“We assume others show love the same way we do - and if they don't, we worry it's not there.” - Gary Chapman

Exploring the importance of intimacy and support of friendship and community, Rebecca will explore the 5 Love Languages Model of Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, and Gifts as they relate to platonic relationships through a workshop and group discussion. Awareness of each other’s Love Languages helps us understand both how to express our own needs, and how to meet the unique needs of our loved ones.

This workshop will explain and explore each language with practical examples - working with participants to identify the ways in which they express and receive love. Various activities will explore each love language. For example, writing a letter of thanks to someone we care about, a physical communication exercise, and creating an art craft for a friend. This workshop centers around the importance of healthy, engaged friendships as a key factor in developing a strong and reliable support system. Amatonormativity and intercultural relationships will also be touched upon.
